In 2018, Unity released two new Scriptable Render Pipelines (SRPs): the High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP) and the Universal Render Pipeline (URP). At some stage URP will replace the Built-in render pipeline so it makes sense to learn how to use the new pipeline. I’ll show you how easy it is to customise the render using features of URP.

This course is intended to help Unity developers and technical artists get the best from the Universal Render Pipeline (URP). You’ll learn how to:

  • Set up URP for a new project, or convert an existing Built-in Render Pipeline-based project to URP.

Navigate to Edit > Project Settings... > Graphics. In the Scriptable Render Pipeline Settings field, add the Universal Render Pipeline Asset you created earlier. When you add the Universal Render Pipeline Asset, the available Graphics settings immediately change. Your Project is now using URP.

Using the Universal Render Pipeline in a new Project
  1. Open Unity.
  2. On the Home page, click New to start a new Project. The Templates popup appears.
  3. Select the Universal Render Pipeline Template.
  4. Click Create. ...
  5. In the Project window, navigate to the Assets folder, and select the Readme Asset.

 What is the advantage of URP?

The Universal Render Pipeline (URP) in Unity optimizes your graphics across a range of platforms, from mobile to computer. URP produces good quality graphics on high end devices and optimized performances on lower-end devices.
  
 
The Universal Render Pipeline (URP) is a prebuilt Scriptable Render Pipeline, made by Unity. URP provides artist-friendly workflows that let you quickly and easily create optimized graphics across a range of platforms, from mobile to high-end consoles and PCs.
 
 
If your project is 2D, you'd be better served with URP. The trade off basically is HDRP has more graphical features built-in, comes with the engine and isn't held back by weak platforms such as mobile. Performance requirements are a bit higher. Development is a lot faster compared to URP
